Missing sounds

Sound samples are Ogg Vorbis files, encoded around 128 kbps, ideally in stereo.

We have very few sound sample : only one explosion sample (but i found it good), two sounds of gun shoot (one for the gun and one for the m16). Now we have a shotgun but no sound of shotgun available ... Other sound are missing too : when a bullet hit the ground we have no sound for this, no sound when we hit a character (only a scream of the injured character).

Open Quartz and Open Arena main goal is to recreate a quake equivalent but only with free contents (maybe there's other project interesting project too like freedoom for exemple). The contents is GPLed and we can found a lot of sound samples. So I guess we can ask them if wormux can take some sound sample for our own use (only to announce them we use there contents).

It's an easy way to get new sound sample without getting crazy (i don't know you, but i don't have a shotgun at home :).

After all, I think it's better to have something instead of nothing (except if it's getting things worst of course).

Currently we need sounds for :

  • music for the disco grenade
  • airhammer (in french : marteau piqueur - already one, need a better one ?)
  • a better sound for explosion (I think the sound is quite good but maybe have multiple sound sample and play one of then randomly)
  • a sound for bullets hitting a character.
  • better sound for the step
  • the grapple (previously know as ninja rope): attaching, detaching, changing direction,...
  • bonus boxes falling
  • bonus boxes touching the ground
  • character winning weapons because of a bonus box
  • character winning health because of a health box
  • flying rocket
  • blowtorch
  • parachute (small wind sound ?)
  • polecat
  • gnu
  • ...
  • sounds related to gaming interface:
    • bip sound when there is less than 5 seconds in the turn
    • changing player with keyboard (TAB) or mouse
    • opening/closing the weapon menu (already done)

Already done :

  • airplane and bombs for air attack weapon
  • the flying supertux
  • jetpack for teams using wings instead of mecanical engines, we use a fluttering sound (wings, feathers).
  • shotgun sound.
  • rebound sound for bullet hit the ground.

GPL games with GPLed contents with gun sound :

Maybe we need to sort them out and add interesting sounds.

Another solution is to use Public Domain sounds.
